What a fine job Rhode Island's capital has done in revitalizing its downtown. Millions of dollars have been spent restoring its many handsome historic buildings, the once-tired riverfront area is now lined with parks and paths, and the restaurant and entertainment scene just keeps getting better.

The summer season, roughly June through mid-September, has the best weather - typically warm days and cool nights - and the most opportunities for hiking, cycling, boating and camping around the state. Fall's dropping temperatures and shortening daylight trigger the trees to change color and makes New England's fall foliage world famous. Fall foliage season runs from mid-September to mid-October, with the leaf colors first changing at the highest elevations in the north, in the mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont, then sweeping southward.
